PIY Life-Size Custom Action Figures!

JUST WHEN YOU THOUGHT YOUR COLLECTION COULDN’T GET ANY BIGGER

It was just a matter of time, fellow Prop Freaks. For years, we’ve had fun creating custom figures ranging from 1/24th scale, 1/6th scale, and of course, the most popular 1/12th scale. Some of our own more memorable creations, here at Prop Freaks HQ, include a custom Brak and various custom Jedi for our nephews and nieces.

But now, may we be the first to present the 1:1 scale custom action figure!

Our good friend Snowgrains over at Instructables has an incredible PIY up, outlining the step-by-step instructions to create your very own one-of-a-kind collectible! (Needless to say, it requires a CNC machine and some 3D modeling software and some serious shop skills.)

So, if you’ve got a fully decked-out workshop nearby (and these days, who doesn’t!?!) then you’re about 12 hours away from creating your very own army of 6-foot tall custom figs!

Check out the pics (courtesy the builder Snowgrains) below then tell us in comments what life size custom fig you’d make!

Hilarious Custom R2-D2 Coffee Maker

LIKE STAR WARS – LOOOOOOOVE COFFEE

Grande, Venti…Astromech?

Kids, here at Prop Freaks, we’ve seen our favorite little astromech in just about every iteration imaginable – from custom grill to wet bar. And just when we think we’ve seen it all, some true prop freak out there goes and surprises us, yet again.

Enter the R2-D2 Coffee Maker. This bad boy employs an industrial BUNN type coffee maker, using a tank of water, which in turn can create TWO coffee pot’s worth of brew. And, as we all know, a severe lack of caffeine is what ACTUALLY made those early Jedi go bad.

Now, while this may or may not be a foretelling of StarBucks opening franchise locations on a Star Destroyer near you, it IS the perfect device for making your official Star Wars Vader’s Dark Side Roast Coffee.

Wanna make your own? Check out user iminthebathroom, over at Instructables. Meanwhile, let us know, Prop Freaks – what home appliance of yours could use a good Star Wars makeover?

Awesome Full Scale Avengers Lego Props!

BECAUSE IF YOU CAN’T BEAT AN ALIEN INVASION WITH STRENGTH AND STRATEGY, LEGOS USUALLY WORK.

As we continue to celebrate “Avengers Week,” here at Prop Freaks, we were nearly dumbstruck into a coma of prop awesomeness when we stumbled upon LEGO builder Ken Robichaud’s display of true hero love, as demonstrated by his incredible brick versions of some of the iconic weaponry and gadgets of our favorite misfit band of heroes.

With everything from Mjollnir (that’s Thor’s hammer for all you C-level nerds) plus gauntlet, to Captain America’s shield, Hawkeye’s bow (complete with set of sweet looking arrows) plus some of Black Widow’s gadgets.

Unfortunately, no full set of Iron Man armor – yet. But rest assured, when we see the Mark X Lego, we’ll be the first to let you know.

Check out the pics below, courtesy BuriedbyBricks’ flickr photostream. Then tell us, Prop Freaks – what Lego weapons would you love to see built?

The Adventures of Superdesk!

AVENGERS – ASSEMBLE! And do some paperwork…

Sure we’re all pumped about The Avengers coming out last week. month. And yes, we  sat through three back-to-back viewings – IN COSTUME. But you know what? A costume-clad premier only lasts one night. And we want something that’ll keep on avengin’ all year long.

Enter Tom Spina Designs, once again. This time, with his freakin’ unbelievable Avengers desk. This custom, one-of-a-kind, fully licensed creation features a glass top, decorative metal panels, accent lights and even hidden compartments!

As with the awesome Han-in-Carbonite desk, we’re expecting this bad boy will auctioned off for charity, sometime this year.

And if you can’t make the auction – don’t worry. Tom Spina takes custom orders so prop freaks everywhere can get their own, one-of-a-kind pieces of movie-themed furniture.

Check out the picture gallery below, then let us know in the comments what movie- or hero-inspired piece of furniture do YOU want?

It Finally Happened – An Actual Lightsaber

USE THIS AND THE FORCE WILL SERIOUSLY BE WITH YOU

Well, it was just a matter of time until some enterprising young engineer raised on Star Wars finally came up with a functioning lightsaber and it’s now available from Wicked Lasers.

According to the site wickedlasers.com, the device is described as “a radiant saber pulsing with laser powered energy. The LaserSaber is energized by the awesome light of the S3 Krypton & Arctic handheld WickedLaser.” The saber also features a unique magnetic gravity system that creates the famous “power up and power down” function of the on-screen equivalent. Check out the video below:

Intense laser brightness ensures the saber maintains its beautiful (and crazy bright) glow regardless of the surrounding ambient light. Basically that means whether you’re on Hoth, Tattooine or any other bright location, you’ll still be able to see the blade.
Now, it does still have a polycarbonate tube attached to the hilt, but here’s hoping we’re only a couple of generations away from losing that and going full-on Jedi-style. And as will all energy-based weapons, the ancient Jedi makers of the LaserSaber encourage operators to wear appropriate eye protection and use in a controlled environment. So if you’re gonna go after a Sith, wear your blast helmet.
